According to sources close to industry, the shortage (and thus high price) of Zhu Zhu Pets Hamsters and Accessories are signs of bad times.

The stores that are terrified of ordering too much are keeping their inventories low, since they remember how holiday shoppers kept their wallets closed last holiday season, so they did not order big piles of merchandise this year. The problem this year is stores decided to rather be out of stock than stuck with lots of leftovers like last year. But they also know that retailers that carry goods buyers want will have an edge. They do not want to disappoint their customers on one hand, but also are afraid of losses on the other hand, so deciding the order quantities and items to order was a very tough job this year.

As mentioned, retailers are reordering the best-selling most sought after items. But they may be out of luck, since manufacturers matched their production to orders, don’t have extras ready to ship and probably will not have sufficient stock manufactured and shipped across half the globe by Christmas.

Due to shortages not going unnoticed by shoppers, a lot of people started their shopping season earlier this year and already bought most of their Christmas gifts.

Bottom line is:
If you want the Zhu Zhu Pets hamsters by Christmas, your best bet is to buy them now, otherwise you risk even higher prices and the stock going out in all the shops. You need to either put aside their higher price right now or wait till after Christmas (and perhaps well into January) for the shelves to be full again and prices in the normal range. Do remember running around stores to find the correct hamster at “correct” price is no fun and you might even end up empty handed and frustrated. Perhaps spending $20 more now might be well worth your time and effort.
